Cagliari’s port was the main entry point to the island for many centuries, bringing in many peoples and cultures. The area around the port, known as Marina, is a fantastic meeting place, because there are many restaurants, cafés, bars, and eateries here. Not too far away is Poetto beach, one of the most beautiful beaches on Sardinia, where you can watch the Cagliaritani enjoy their holidays, together with the many tourists that come to the coast here.
As the gateway to Sardinia, the whole island is within reach from Cagliari, and the only way to really explore Sardinia is by car. The island is ideal for travellers who like a more active approach: walking, hiking, fishing, horse-riding, and hunting. The many beaches cater for those who want a more relaxed holiday, or those who wish to indulge in sailing, surfing, scuba-diving, and snorkelling.
